1. What is Computer forensics?


Computer forensics is the application of investigation and analysis techniques to gather and preserve evidence from a

particular computing device in a way that is suitable for presentation in a court of law. The goal of computer forensics

is to perform a structured investigation and maintain a documented chain of evidence to find out exactly what

happened on a computing device and who was responsible for it. Computer forensics -- which is sometimes referred to

as cyber forensics, computer forensic science, or digital forensics -- essentially is data recovery with legal compliance

2. When and Where is it used:


It is used in several cases like: Criminal Investigation, Data recovery, Corporate investigations, and Civil litigations to

solve data theft, property theft, digital breaches, and network failure in real life cases, thus making this a major part in

incident response.


3. Challenges faced in Computer Forensics:


When it comes to updated technology advancements like new storage media and updated OS, it is difficult to keep up

with computer forensics to work with it. Forensic analysts face major challenges due to excessive use of data

encryption, where investigations can be hampered and the probability of extracting the data successfully is lower when

the data cannot be decrypted properly.


Volume and Complexity of Data also plays a major role, when analysing could get tougher depending on the volume

of digital data from the user or company is large and complex.


Anti-Forensic tools and techniques : Tools like CCleaner , DBAN can be used to securely wipe data hard drives and

erase specific files to free up space which obstruct investigations .Forensic , HawkEye. Challenges in Computer

, Where can you work as a Computer Forensics Investigator?


With a lot of job openings and a high base salary, according to my research, you can work within local, national, and

international law enforcement with salaries ranging from $80,000 to $125,000, it also help build complementary skills

such as mathematics calculations, a second language and law knowledge. “How to Become a Computer Forensics

Types of Investigation: With the best of my knowledge and research, the types of investigations are :


Public Investigation : focuses on crime impacting the public involving technology. Includes crimes like : Cyber

terrorism, Internet fraud, Identity theft “Criminal Division | Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section
