Complete Denture exam Study Material with
Complete Solutions!!
Criteria before denture processing
1. posterior palatal seal (conpensate shrinkage) done before peripheral seal (determine
the thickness of denture base peripherally-->stabilize CD)
2. Tooth positioning should be finalized
3. Teeth clean (free of wax residues)
Total number of investments
3 layers
Processing/flasking sequences
1. lubricate flasks, apply separator to mast cast
2. 1st investment-->"land area"-->teeth should be below flask
3. separator to 1st investment-->add 2nd investment-->expose cusp tips and incised
edges to know where to separate
4. apply separator to 2nd investment-->3rd (last) investment-->lid-->wipe off excess
5. melting wax:
boil out tank, 212 Farenheit-->
Wax is gone, space and contour reproduced in the stone-->
remove wax residues, make sure no teeth is loose
6. thinking retention of teeth:
mechanical retention (placing diatorics-->round bur, holes)+ bonding of acrylic teeth to
denture base
7. getting ready for adding denture base:
apply separator to mast cast and investment around teeth (tissue surface can be
,cleaned with monomers)
8. packing denture acrylic:
a. mix-->stick to m:p ratio-->excess monomer cause porosity
b. place denture acrylic over teeth
c. place denture acrylic over cast
d. place separating plastic
e. trial pack:
excess acrylic (flash) protruding;
slow is the key;
P=1000~1500 psi
f. remove flash
g. further packing:
p=3500 psi (having adequate P is very important-->avoid distortion)
h. processing:
secure: spring clamp
water bath:
slow: 9 hrs, 165 F
rapid: 1.5 hrs @ 165 F, then 0.5 hrs @ 212 F
i. separate by tapping removal ring
g. removing cast and denture from investment mold:
remove cap first, then sectional method
During processing, why the water bath is set at 165 F?
Acrylic polymerization: exothermic
High enough water: removes heat and prevent boiling of monomer-->prevent porosity
Purpose of lab remount:
, CR, VDO and occlusion:
1. Correct errors in occlusion occurred during processing (wax distortion, acrylic
shrinkage, packing pressure, changes in investment)-->premature contacts, open
contacts-->occlusion needs adjustment-->Steps?
2. correct VDO (pin on plate should be at 0-->pin off plate is due to processing error)
3. correct CR
What are the steps to adjust occlusion errors due to processing during lab remount?
1. VDO (pin on plate)
2. Refine and equalize CR contacts-->develop as many occlusal contacts as possible in CR
3. Excursive mvmts
4. Protrusive mvmts
Correction of errors in CR occlusion.
Grind the shaded areas.
A, Teeth too long.
B, Teeth too nearly end to end.
C, Too much horizontal overlap.
Concepts of adjusting excursive mvmts occlusion
1. MX L cusp/inclined plane and MN B cusp/inclined plane in contacts as much as
possible (the functional cusps)
2. To adjust interferences w/out affecting established centric stops-->adjust non-
functional inclined plane or cusps:
