Purpose of Physical Examination - Answers- to perform a series of tests and measures
to collect data. After data is collected, intervention should be applied.

What is the purpose of the evaluation and diagnosis? - Answers- to make a clinical
judgment based on the data from the tests and measures that results in a diagnostic
label for the patient

What is the difference between a diagnosis by an MD and diagnosis by a PT? -
Answers- -MDs diagnose disease and pathology
-Diagnosis by a PT is to diagnose tissue and movement impairments

Evaluation - Answers- Dynamic process- The evaluation is the critical thinking aspect of
patient/client management. It is the component where the PT comes up with a problem
list and a list of tissue-specific impairments.

Diagnosis - Answers- the process of the evaluation and the result of evaluating
information obtained from the examination, which the physical therapist then organizes
into defined clusters, syndromes, or categories to help determine the most appropriate
intervention strategies.

Prognosis - Answers- the determined level of optimal improvement that might be
attained through our intervention and the amount of time required to reach that level.

Intervention (plan of care) - Answers- the purposeful and skilled interaction of the
physical therapist with the patient/client and, if appropriate, with other individuals
involved in the care of the patient/client, using various physical therapy methods and
techniques to
produce changes in the condition that are consistent with the diagnosis and prognosis

Outcomes - Answers- the results of our patient/client management. It is how much
improvement, or lack
thereof, the patient gained.

Patient/Client Management - Answers- the overall care that the patient receives from
initial evaluation, through discharge and even after discharge.

Impairment/Dysfunction - Answers- problems in body function or structure

Functional limitation - Answers- impairments that restrict movement

Disability - Answers- The inability to perform actions, tasks and activities related to
required self-care, home management,
etc.

involvement in life situations.

TSI (Tissue Specific Impairment) - Answers- identify the tissue and what is wrong with
it.

Symptom - Answers- Subjective complaint, what the patient tells you

Sign - Answers- What us clinicians observe and measure

Etiology - Answers- This is the cause, or rather, the start of the impairment. It can be
identified by asking
questions such as: "How did this happen?", "When did this happen?", etc.

Pathogenesis - Answers- This is the pathological process of disease

Clinical Manifestations/Clinical Features - Answers- This is what you see when the
patient comes into the clinic. Another way of saying, "Signs and Symptoms"

Examination Finding - Answers- The data obtained from a specific test or measure.
NOT just the exam but the data/info/finding or result of the test as well.
Example: warmth over elbow, 140 degrees ROM with tight capsule end feel, weak
biceps rated 4-/5,
