THE USABILITY OF WEBSITES
Readability:
People get irritated with content that is hard to read
Don’t do THINGS like use lots of different fonts and colours simply because
you can.
TEXT ALL IN CAPITALS IS CONSIDERED RUDE, AS IT IS REGARDED AS 'SHOUTING'.
Centred text may be good for headings but
paragraphs of centred text, with lots of lines underneath each other and
lots to read does not work very well
at all!
Readability - Some Tips:
Use headings, short paragraphs and columns
Use numbered or bulleted lists
Group together related ideas
Attend to the type, size and colour of fonts
Avoid text all in upper case
Backgrounds that are easy on the eye
Navigation
Main links should be easy to locate and identify
Links should be short - Understand what the link is leading to
No ‘broken’ links (Links that don’t work)
Links formatted in a consistent and standard way
Consistency
Using the same basic layout
Using the same colours and fonts, or theme
