Case study
Jacob Mohale, aged 85, is reported missing after he left the old age home where he is residing
to go to the post office, two streets away and did not return. The personnel at the old age
home visited the post office and were told that he left after sending a parcel. They, however,
did not notice in which direction he went.
1.1 Identify and define the action under which Jacob Mohale can be reported at the police
station. (3)
1.2 Name and describe any ten steps which you will follow to trace Jacob.

having a narcotic effect after she drove over an orange cone at a roadblock, barely missing
the Metro Police officer who tried to stop her to conduct a routine check.

blood sample be taken?

Sandy Govender left her residence in a housing complex at 07:00 on Friday morning. The
housing complex has 24-hour security surveillance cameras covering all entry and exit gates
as well as the entrances to all the properties therein. Sandy also has a CCTV camera system
inside her house. She locked all the doors and closed all the windows, except for the small
window above her chest freezer in the kitchen, which she left slightly ajar for her cat to enter
the house. The window has burglar bars mounted to the window frame. Upon her return at
16:30, she found her front door open, which is right next to the kitchen. She immediately saw
that the small kitchen window, which had been only slightly opened, was completely open and
that the burglar bars had been broken. She entered through the front door and saw that her
Dell laptop and Mecer computer screen were visibly missing from the dining room table. She
