, SYNTHESIS PAPER 2
Introduction
In the book Introduction to Research: Less Fright, More Insight, Crawford defines a case
study as <a research methodology that is an in-depth observation of an individual, animal, event,
or treatment method= (Crawford, 2019, p.78). In this paper the student will be writing a case
study of herself and she will explain what she has learned about research at an introductory level.
Also, her evaluation of the learned material from a Biblical Christian perspective.
Research Volunteer
The subject of this case study is a 35-year-old female named Rhonda. This is the subject’s
first experience in a research class. After being out of school for twenty-two years, she enrolled
at Liberty University. At first, she was anxious about returning to school, but she adjusted rather
quickly. Being that this is her first research class, she was unsure of what to expect. Through the
strength of God, she was able to persevere and learned so much about the research processes.
The information she has learned in this class will be very beneficial in her future classes.
PSYC 255: Introduction to Research
The first week was a challenging week for the student as she studied the syllabus and the
weekly assignments. In week one, the reading from the Crawford text was chapter one through
chapter three (Crawford, 2019). In chapter one of the Crawford book, the student learned the
sources available to obtain information. The APA, journal articles and books on the field of
psychology, conducting one’s own research, and the media, were the recommended ways to
obtain information (Crawford, 2019, p. 18). If one is to use the media as a source, facts must be
checked for accuracy. The differences between science and pseudoscience was discussed next.
