Required Elective - ANSElectives can be any course that does not fulfill a major, general education,
emphasis or minor/support requirement in your curriculum is considered an elective.
Excess Elective - ANSOccurs when you have completed more than the number of required elective hours
for your curriculum.
Prerequisite - ANSA course or requirement that must be met before a course may be attempted. Check
prerequisites when planning courses.
Restriction - ANSA course that is restricted by major or class standing. For example, MKT 3010 has an
economics prerequisite and a restriction of sophomore (or higher) standing. Check for restrictions when
planning courses.
Double Dipping - ANS1) A course that satisfies two requirements--most often two different GEN ED
categories. 2) Since a three-hour course satisfies six hours of requirements, three additional elective
hours are created to ensure you complete the total number of hours required for your major. 3) If
applicable, double dipping courses absorb excess elective hours. 4) Double dipping is generally not
helpful for students unless they have excess electives, are double majoring, earning a second
baccalaureate or double minoring.
