PM questions
I Passed!!! 30 tips and topics for
the NHA CCMA certification test
I passed my test last week with a 430/500, so I figured I'd share some insight for
people who haven't taken it yet.
Is it hard? Yes and no. Yes because I used all 3 hours and thought I failed when I hit
submit, and no because everyone in my class passed. Bottom line, if you study don't
stress. You'll pass. (Mobile messed up the formating. I tried to fix it to make it more
readable but I apologize in
advance)
Resources
1. NHA Study guide
This was the textbook my class used and is hands down the best resource to prep for the
test
2. NHA practice tests
My professor gave us his login so we can access the practice tests. On one hand it's
helpful to get an idea of what the test will be like, on another the actual test will be
almost completely different, so you shouldnt focus on them too much.
Tips and Topics to Focus On
1. Use all 3 hours, but go with your gut if you're unsure. Keep track of
questions to go back to on the paper provided.
2. EKG lead placement and Phlebotomy tube order & additives
3. Conversions (ex: Fahrenheit to Celsius)
4. Chain of Infection
5. Scheduling (Cluster, Wave, Open etc.)
6. Diseases & procedures (Memorizing medical terminology prefixes and suffixes
ASAP will make this 100x easier)
7. Normal Vitals for adults, kids, & infants
8. Normal Lab Results (Hgb, Hct, Fasting glucose, potassium etc.)
9. The four quadrants
10. Patient interactions, scope of practice, standard of care, customer service.

R's to help myself with this:
Reinforce- instructions or teachings prescribed by the provider
Refer- to the provider for anything outside a CMA's scope of practice
Reflect- Use reflective statements to angry or upset patients aka pick the statement
that doesn't actually resolve anything
Record- keep a record of everything
