of the knowledge of disabilities.
1.1.1 Scenario 1: You are a teacher in a mainstream classroom with diverse
learners, including a student with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD),
who needs your support as the teacher. How can your knowledge of disabilities
be pedagogically relevant in this situation?
As a teacher in a mainstream classroom, I have the important job of helping all my
students learn and grow. This includes students with different needs, such as
those with disabilities like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Knowing about disabilities is very useful for me because it helps me create a
better learning experience for everyone.
First, understanding ADHD helps me recognize the specific challenges that a
student with this condition might face. For example, a student with ADHD may
have trouble focusing, sitting still, or following instructions. By knowing this, I can
adjust my teaching methods to support them better. For instance, I could give
shorter instructions and allow for movement breaks. Research shows that short,
focused lessons work well for students with ADHD (Duhaney & Lewis, 2006). This
way, the student can pay attention more easily and stay engaged in the lesson.

environment. I can use various teaching strategies that help all students feel
included. For example, I could incorporate hands-on activities or group work,

as needed. Involving parents in the conversation allows for a stronger support
system at home and school.

ADHD. Recognizing and rewarding positive behavior can encourage the student to
stay on task and complete assignments. Simple systems like reward charts can
motivate them and provide clear goals to work towards.
