The purpose of this assignment is to select one theory; nursing or counseling,
and explain why this theory were selected. Also, there needs to be three goals as well
as objective for your finances. The final reason for this assessment is to create a time
line based on requirements of the practicum experience.
Practicum is a strategic task that is expected prepare you for the future in a
professional field such as counseling, physical health, and or teaching. The field and
the program of study determines the length and standards of practicum. Researchers
Hatcher, Wise, and Grus (2015) suggest the accrediting and licensing bodies are
conditional to quality standards for practicum. According to authors Slemon, Bungay,
Jenkins, & Brown (2018) the nurses are not commonly equipped with what it takes to
care for the mentally ill.
When attempting to master a task such as a practicum, it is important to
understand the theory of the subject of study. An important aspect of the practicum is
learning to attain therapeutic communication (Sutherland, 1995). The best way to
master the skill of therapeutic communication (Sutherland, 1995) is practice, which also
empowers the clinician to be cognizant of and better at managing client’s needs. A
theory according Dewey (2018) is proposed to impact how a nurse preforms duties
through specific guidelines to assist in making problem solving.
Of all the therapy the ones favored are the strength based approach. This
approach may not be useful with all clients but I have seen the effects of this type of
therapy while in clinicals. This powerful approach is based on interpersonal
relationships, as suggested by Foltz (2006) and noted to be very effective for many
