How does a myocardial infarction occur?
when insufficient blood and oxygen make it to the heart due to rupture in
the artery or thrombus
How do you treat myocardial infarctions?
1. manage pain
2. limit heart damage
3. prevent clotting
4. increase blood flow
How many METs do you use to treat myocardial infarction?
1-2 right after
2-4 for HEP
How does a coronary artery disease occur?
ischemic condition; atherosclerosis that narrows vessels and limits blood
flow
What might occur during a coronary artery disease?
Angina pectoris which is when increased activity increases blood supply
but the vessels are too narrow to adequately flow causing pain, SOB,
fatigue, nausea
How does congestive heart failure occur?
when abnormal structure of function in ventricles impairs its ability to
adequately pump blood and leads to a collection of fluid in lungs or
extremities
What are symptoms of R ventricle failure?
peripheral or abdominal edema and swelling
, What are symptoms of L ventricle failure?
SOB, fatigue, edema
What is myocardiopathy?
a heterogenous collection of diseases associated with mechanical or
electrical heart disfunction
What happens during myocardiopathy?
dilation and hypertrophy of vessels
What happens during peripheral artery disease
There is lack of blood supply not to the heart but to the pelvis and limbs
that cause a collection of fluid build up in the lungs and extremities
what are symptoms of PAD?
ulcers, claudication, hair loss, coldness in limbs, numbness in limbs, pain
*potential for amputation or gangrene
How is PAD treated?
VAC and negative pressure wound therapy
