Who are the founding mothers? - Answer-Graciela Ortiz, Diana Rasbot, and Brenda Alvarez founded Hau de UCLA on October 23, 2000. What are the steering requirements? - Answer-per quarter: need 20 academic hours, 10 community service hours, 2 social events, 100% attendance at steering meetings (if late, add 2 study hours; if absent, add 1 CS hour), 100% attendance at GB meetings, 1 subcommittee, 1 blog post, promotion of 1 off-campus event, 2 on-campus events, payment of dues, must attend 1 campus fundraiser and 1 off-campus fundraiser Who did you talk to and what did you get out of it? - Answer-I talked with Clarissa, who I connected with as she was a transfer student like myself. I was able to talk to her about the importance of using my resources and my time to help the Latinx community here at UCLA. I believe having a position on Steering can help me continue to make HaU a space where we can have good influence on our campus community. I talked with Karen, where we talked about the necessity of game plans and deadlines as this keeps steering accountable and organized. Why do you think you're ready? - Answer-I think I am ready to take on the position of Secretary because I have experience as the Secretary intern this past quarter. I also have outside experience working with the LA Fed, which provided me with the similar duties to the Secretary position in HaU. Weekly newsletter, sign-in duties during meetings, I sat-in and networked with coalition leaders during meetings. I attended around 5 meetings during my internship, one where I even met Xavier Baccera, who works as the US secretary health and human services. How did you deal with stress? - Answer-Some of my methods of distressing include talking with friends and taking time away from academic spaces. Communicating where I am at mentally is the best way I deal with stress. I don't think it is the healthiest way to deal with my stress if I keep it in to myself. What are your time commitments? - Answer-I have a relatively small load for next year. It is my senior year and I have a lot less stressful classes to deal with, giving me ample opportunity to ensure I am a committed and involved member on Steering. What about you makes you different? - Answer-What sets me apart is my longtime commitment and service to the Latinx community and my love of the HaU space. I am working towards a Central American minor, involved in How do you effectively communicate to other orgs or clubs in terms of doing collab events or having presenters? - Answer-
