detrimental effects of overcrowding on discipline management and academic achievement
in educational settings are well-documented. Overcrowded classrooms not only strain
physical resources but also create an environment where it becomes increasingly difficult
for educators to maintain discipline and facilitate meaningful learning experiences. The

implications of this issue are far-reaching, impacting not only the immediate educational
outcomes of students but also their long-term prospects and the overall quality of the
education system.

Given the urgency and complexity of this challenge, there is a critical need to delve deeper
into the experiences of those most directly affected by overcrowded classrooms – the
student teachers. These individuals, poised on the cusp of entering the teaching profession,

represent a valuable source of insight into the practical realities of classroom management
and instructional delivery in overcrowded settings. exploring their perspectives, this
research seeks to uncover the subtle ways in which classroom overcrowding shapes the
teaching and learning process, as well as the strategies employed by student teachers to

The issue of overcrowded classrooms in South Africa has emerged as a pressing concern

(SABC, 2013). With classrooms accommodating more students than they were designed
for, the scope of the problem is widespread, affecting schools across urban and rural areas.
