Controls & Valves - ANSWER-Used for controls, isolation and repair of the water distribution system. Direct upfeed system - ANSWER-Water is provided by the city water companies using normal pressure from public water main. Air pressure system - ANSWER-Used when pressure supplied by city water supply is inadequate. Downfeed/ overheadfeed gravity system - ANSWER-Water is pumped into a large tank on the top of the building and is distributed to the fixtures by means of gravity. Gate valve - ANSWER-Used mainly to completely close or completely open the water line. Globe valve - ANSWER-Controls the flow of water with a movable spindle. Check valve - ANSWER-Main function is to prevent reversal of flow in the line. Angle valve - ANSWER-Operates in the same manner as a globe valve and used to make a 90 degrees turn in the plumbing line. Butterfly valve - ANSWER-Typically used to regulate a fluid flowing through a section of pipe and flat circular plate is positioned in the center of the pipe.
