You are the charge nurse in the coronary care unit for the daylight shift. Upon arrival you find a middle age male with CPR in progress by the radiology staff. The monitor is in place and is showing ventricular fibrillation. The radiology nurse informs you that the patient suddenly collapsed while awaiting an x-ray. He has no history. She also informs you that the patient was just defibrillated using 150 joules just as you arrived. She is currently doing compressions that appear adequate. 1) The next step in the treatment of this patient (in addition to the continuation of high quality CPR) would be to: 2) An IV has been placed in the patient's arm. The first medication that should be administered is: 3) Following the administration of any medication, you should: 4)f the patient remains in ventricular fibrillation, the antiarrhythmic that should be administered is: - establish IO or IV access epinephrine 1mg IV Continue CPR for several cycles, followed by a rhythm check and defibrillation, if indicated. Amiodarone 300mg IV. Throughout the duration of the cardiac arrest, the compressor should be changed: Every two minutes. Every ten minutes. Whenever he/she says they cannot continue doing compressions. Every 30 seconds. - Every two minutes. Following the administration of any medication, you should: A) Ventilate the patient 4-5 times to increase oxygen levels so that the medication can work better. B) Medications are not administered during cardiac arrest. C) Stop CPR so that the medication can be circulated. D)Continue CPR for several cycles, followed by a rhythm check and defibrillation, if indicated. - Continue CPR for several cycles, followed by a rhythm check and defibrillation, if indicated.
