There are various factors that one ought to consider before settling on a program that he or she wants to pursue, and once the courses begin, the work can seem to be overwhelming. For some nurses, the transition from classroom-based learning to online platforms can prove to be difficult on top of balancing between studies and work. So far, for me, it has been a nice balance between the masters nursing program, family obligations and work. 2 Just like bachelor’s programs, graduate studies demand diligence, dedication, and motivation. It requires students to be proactive and go above and beyond in their studies. I have learned that graduate studies need students to apply themselves to gain and achieve more in return. In graduate studies, one can only gain more by taking an ardent approach. In the first week of this course, we were introduced to the concept of nursing theory and its significance to the nursing profession. Nursing theories are essential to the nursing profession because they act as a guide to nursing practice. Nursing theories provide principles that support nursing practice and create knowledge that will help nursing practitioners elucidate reasons for their actions to patients. The concepts learned this week helps in preparation for my future role as a nurse practitioner by guiding research, which is at the core of graduate studies. These concepts will help me in gaining advanced skills that will be used to improve nursing practice by impacting the quality of care provided to patients. I feel prepared because the concept learned in this week will be crucial to effectively articulate evidence in which nursing practice is based. I, however, feel unprepared to a certain extent because I think what I have learned so far is not sufficient to take up the role of a nurse practitioner
