Task 1
How Networks Communicate
What is a network?
A network is simply a cluster of different computer
hardware such as servers, computers, laptops and other
network devices which are connected via either cabled or
wireless technology.
How networks Communicate?
Networks can communicate via protocols such as HTTP. FTP
and POP3 using networking devices those are routers,
switches, bridges and other similar devices. Those devices need a hardware that can use the networking
technology example of such hardware is Network Interface card (NIC). Those devices/computes across
the network communicate by initializing the conversation using protocols. Effective way of network
communication between themselves is what’s called bridge. A bridge grants separate networks ability to
communicate with each other. Routers nowadays often come with build-in bridges hardware. Routers
route traffic so that it goes into the right nodes. Switches can also be added they can be connected so
whenever there is traffic switch would choose the correct destination for it. Communication across the
networks can be done using packets which are stored in a text format they can hold a specific type of
data for example pictures, videos or audo.

To successfully communicate it’s required for there to be two or more devices, with the two main ones
consisting of sender, receiver the other devices act as a medium to transfer the information across. The
sender can be done automatically by the program or manually by a physical person typing a message.
Good example of person doing this would be sending an email.
Sender – This is a device which is responsible for sending the information in binary format so that
another computer can translate back into audio, visual or text, this information ca be sent either directly
to the receiver or to a medium which will contact another medium or directly to the receiver.
Receiver – This is the device which receives the data from the sender or a medium which has forwarder
it.
Medium – This is a device which is responsible for forwarding the traffic towards the receiver or another
medium which is closer to him. Medium can be either wireless or wired as it acts like a bridge between
