Task M1
In this assignment I will be explaining why human resource planning is important to an
organisation. For this task the organisation I have chosen to use as an example is
Debenhams.
At Debenhams their aim is to employ stafs that are polite, friendly, qualifed and will work
well with others. They need employees with dedication and passion for helping customers.
They must be able to deliver excellent customer service.
Human resource planning: looks at the workforce feld and motivation techniques used so
that they can be modifed and improved for the future. To do this Debenhams need to take
into consideration of skills that are needed to improve the business. Debenhams human
resource management is a strategic process. This is because the company involves the
whole store when planning for improvement for the future. By having the skills and
knowledge that will help the business enables Debenhams to meet their goals and
objectives. As a result they are able to compete beter with rival stores.
Employees must have the required skills to accomplish the task set by the company. This
may include operations such as serving customers on tills and helping with their enquires.
Workforce planning allows Debenhams to identify employment needs for the future. This
process is called recruitment and selection which is done by the human resources team.
Recruitment is costly, and therefore, Debenhams uses a structured approach to ensure that
they are hiring the correct staf for the business.
Personal development at Debenhams is passed onto all the employees. This allows them to
identify their skills and knowledge and how to adapt and improvement on their skills. In
addition to this, work force planning will help Debenhams and their staf to set them goals
and targets for the future. The purpose of work force planning is for the employees to
understand their target and try to reach their goal whilst working within the company.
However, if this is not met, then the human resources team will be notifed and in a result,
will dismiss the worker.
Workforce planning analyses the relevant information that is required to create a strategic
plan that will impact the employee’s performance. Work force planning is designed to help
the employees become beter workers, it is also there to inform the human resources team
who is working well and who is not.
If human resources were to recruit an employee at Debenhams, they would look for certain
skills that match their requirements. For instance, they must have work experience in the
feld of retail, they should also have excellent customer service, work well in a team and
independently. The employees that get recruited in Debenhams must have some
background knowledge about the position they applied for, if they do not know what is
