Hypokinetic - hypokinetic- disease is caused or contributed by inactivity hyperkinetic- disease is caused or contributed by too much physical activity Types of Hypokinetic Disease - heart disease, arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), stroke, hypertension (high blood pressure), obesity, type II diabetes (not insulin dependent and common in overweight kids), leg neck & back pain Physical Fitness - associated with a person's ability to work effectively, enjoy leisure time, be healthy, resist hypokinetic diseases and meet emergency situations 11 Aspects of Physical Fitness - 5 health related, 6 skill related difference is health is directly related to the reduced risk of hypokinetic diseases Health: cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, body composition Skill: agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, reaction time Making Lifestyle Changes - self assessments- help you recognize needs and areas in which you may need improvement self monitoring- can help you evaluate progress Stages of Change - Precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance. *the ultimate goal of any health behavior is to reach the stage of maintenance* Self Management Skills - can be useful in altering factors related to making lifestyle changes Self Planning For Healthy Lifestyles - 1.
