Part 1 - Genealogy
(an account of one’s line of decent)
Chapter One - Genesis:
- Genie is born and it was magical
= Happens in the form of a “golden egg”.
= Golide and Elizabeth spend the night together.
- Shown that Golide’s farther (Baines Tikiti) was a successful salesman and
he loved to travel for work and this is how he met Golide’s mother.
- Golide is an albino
= His father is embarrassed of him for this reason.
= This means he travels a lot to stay away.
= His father (Baines Tikiti) ends committing suicide by walking into the
ocean.
- Prudence is Golide’s mothern
= Raises her children to have character.
- Golide grows up and is a natural leader
= He joins the Freedom Fighters.
= Changes his name to Golide as it was originally Liningston.
= Studies aeronautical science or called engineering.
- Golide meets Elizebeth
= Makes a dream to build an airplane so that he can fly her to Tennessee
to live out her dream of being a country singer.
= Building an airplane is expensive he then shoots down Vickers Viscount
for parts to use.
= He witnessed elephants crossing the river which gave him confidence
and bravery to do all this.
- Golide then has a vision of Genie’s birth
= Her hatching out of a golden egg.

Chapter Two
Beauford:
- Details events that occurred at/related to Beauford Farm and Estate.
- Vickers Viscount crash traced from Golide to Beatrice to the Beauford farm
and estate.
- Bennington (who is the father of Beatrice)
= Moved to the colonies where he could afford land.
= There he founded the estate and left it to his daughter, Beatrice, after he
passed.
- Beatrice
= Was liberal minded and stood for African rights.
= She turned the farm into a commune.
= She is connected to Emil Coetzee, who is her best friend's husband.
- Emil Coetzee
= The husband of Beatrice's best friend, Kuki.
= He is the head of the Organization of Domestic Affairs.
= Employs Minenhle Gatiro, C10, to spy and torture suspects.
- He is ordered to torture Minenhle (Golide’s sister) and she does not break
her silence
= Therefore the man who had nothing to have an allegiance to, finally
found someone to have one for. (he came from a background where he
couldn’t trust anybody)
= He changed everything about himself, even how he speaks, and
introduced himself to Minenhle later on but she did not recognise him.
- Thandi Hadebe
= She is a beautiful young woman and student of Minenhle’s.
= She is mocked and thrown into a pit latrine (toilet) by Sojas. (soldiers)
= She meets Elizabeth, who is new to the farm, and follows her advice to
become a model.
= She only returns to give birth to her son, Marcus and leave him with his
grandparents before going to America.
- Marcus and Genie friendship begins.
