Balanced Literacy An approach based on the view of combining both a teacher-centered and student-centered classroom. What are the Components of Balanced Literacy? Students who receive information that has already been discussed in a prior class topic will store that information into a schema already created. This is called ASSIMILATION. Students who receive brand new information will create a new file "schema" and will continue to add to that schema as long as the information is given. This process is more difficult and called ACCOMMODATION. From the theorist Piaget (1969) Inquiry Learning (CONSTRUCTIVISM) An approach to learning based on students working together on projects in order to have a more conducive learning experience. This type of learning allows students to hear other opinions and create diverse knowledge. Constructed by Dewey (1997) Engagement Theory (CONSTRUCTIVISM) Theory based on how engaged students are with a certain topic taught in class.
