The travel and Tourism industry is one of the world’s largest industries. It employs 235 million people worldwide and generates approximately
9.2% of global GDP. In this assignment I will firstly be describing the different types of tourism. Secondly I will be describing the following
segments which make up the Travel and Tourism industry: Accommodation, Transport provision, Attractions, Tour operations, Travel agents,
and finally tourism development and promotion. Then I will be explaining the nature of inbound, outbound, and domestic tourism for a range
of organisations which cover them. I will be using different resources to ensure that I can back my evidence up.
Different types of tourism
The first type of tourism is what’s known as inbound tourism. Inbound tourism is where people from another country come to visit the country
that you live in. The tourist will stay for no longer than 12 months and will usually be for leisure or business purposes. Let’s say that I’m a
British Citizen, and I met a family who travelled from their home country Nepal, here to the UK to watch the London 2012 Olympics, they would
be classed as inbound tourists.
The second type of tourism is what’s known as domestic tourism. Domestic tourism is tourism within the country that you live in. I live in a
small town called Ross on Wye, located in Herefordshire, England. If I was to travel to London for the weekend I would be called a domestic
tourist.
The third type of tourism is outbound tourism. Outbound tourism is where a resident of a given country travels to another country for no
longer than 12 months. For example if I depart from England to go and stay over in Mexico, I would then be known as an outbound tourist.
The fourth type of tourism is business tourism. This is where a person has to go over to another country because of their occupation. It is not a
holiday where they can go and relax, it will be work related. When on a business trip the person going may have to attend meetings,
conferences, trade fairs exhibitions etc. It will be the person travelling’s employer who usually pays for the trip. An example of business tourism
may be a man who works for Apple in England, travelling to Apple Campus in California, U.S.A.
, Finally the fifth type of tourism is leisure tourism. Leisure tourism are trips to another country for leisure, recreation or holiday purposes. These
are for relaxing purposes. When going on a leisure holiday you may just want to sit by the pool/beach, or even visit sights. An example of
leisure tourism is a two week holiday at a beach resort in the Dominican Republic.
