Unit 2 P2
Describe the main employability, personal and communicational skills required when applying for
a specific job role.
This section describes the main employability, personal and communication skills required when
applying for a specific job role at Villiers. The role is for a Design and Technology Technician.
Employability skills are specific skills that can be transferred from one career to another to make
them employable. Businesses would be inclined to hire someone with experience over someone
with little experience as workers are more prepared and are not required training which would save
the firm money. Productivity would increase with experienced workers as they are more skilled and
can therefore work efficiently.
Qualifications
In the person specification for the Villiers High School Design and Technology Technician job, there
are no specific requirements, however further education is desirable for e.g. academic qualifications
indicating literacy, numeracy’ would be expected.
A degree in Maths or English will show Villiers High School that you have the required knowledge
and skills to teach a subject. Having a qualification/degree in English Language is evidence to the
recruitment team that you are able to understand information and able to explain it in your own
words. This is useful as teachers must be able to regurgitate information in order for younger
students to understand content. With a relevant degree, the chances of being employed within a
certain work field are higher, and also graduates are expected to earn a higher salary. It gives a
candidate a competitive edge over others.
Experience
Experience is gained by a person who has equipped skills over a period of time when working in a
specific position for a firm.
In relation to this specific job role, the person specification states that candidates must have
experience of working within schools, the recruitment team would want to hire a candidate with
experience because they are already likely to have the skill set which is required for a teacher. They
must be able to control a class as well as know all the precautions that must be taken out when an
emergency such as a Fire. Candidates are also expected to have good ICT/word Processing skills, this
is essential as a teacher has to make documents/presentations on a day to day basis. Without this
skill they will struggle in producing resources for students. Therefore the recruitment team will only
hire those who are comfortable using such software, in best interest for students. Having experience
in any field gives candidates an advantage over others as firms may have to spend less on training
and experienced workers are likely to be more efficient as they are already skilled.
Knowledge
It is important to have knowledge of the product or service – this is desirable however it is
recommended as it shows that you have studied the ‘Company’ and have made an extra effort to
get hired, it also shows that you have the skills capable of working in the company.
In relation to this job role, the recruitment team would want the candidate to know the background
of the school, this would help understand the standards of the school and the standards that the
candidate must meet in order to work efficiently.
