Safety Valve - ANSWER-Prevents boiler pressure from rising above the setting of the valve by relieving excessive steam pressure, guarding against hazards of overpressurization.
Steam Supply Stop Valve - ANSWER-The valve installed at the steam outlet of the boiler to shut off the flow of steam.
Steam Pressure Gauge - ANSWER-Indicates the steam pressure in the boiler in pounds
per square inch.
Steam Gauge Syphon - ANSWER-Device installed between the steam gauge and the boiler to provide a water seal so that steam will not enter the gauge to give a false reading or damage the gauge.
Inspector's Test Gauge Connection and Cock - ANSWER-Provides the necessary connection to check the accuracy of the steam pressure gauge on the boiler.
Water Column - ANSWER-The hollow casting or forging connected at the top to the boiler's steam space and at the bottom to the water space. The water gauge glass and water test cocks are installed on the column.
Water Glass and Gauge Fixtures - ANSWER-To visibly show the water level in the boiler.
Water Test Gauges or Try Cocks - ANSWER-For testing the water level in the boiler should the the water glass be temporarily out of service for any reason.
Drain Valve under the Water Column and Switch - ANSWER-To provide for a means of daily flushing under the water column and water level controls to keep the chamber and lines clean so the water will register accurately in the glass. Also provides a means of testing the low water cutoff.
Blowoff or Blowdown Valve - ANSWER-To provide a method of draining, flushing, and blowing off the boiler at the low point to remove the concentrated solids, sediment, seals
and sludge to keep the boiler clean.
