Preventative methods
PPE
Personal protective equipment, or "PPE," is clothing worn to reduce exposure to risks that might result
in significant workplace diseases and injuries. Contact with chemical, radioactive, physical, electrical,
mechanical, or other job hazards may cause these wounds and illnesses. Items like gloves, safety
goggles, shoes, earplugs or muffs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls, vests, and full body suits are
examples of personal protection equipment. As well as being utilised in business contexts, ppe can be
worn on a day-to-day basis to protect an individual from contracting or transmitting an infectious
disease such as the cold. It is relatively simple to share the common cold to others. It frequently spreads
through airborne droplets that the ill person coughs or sneezes into. Another person then inhales the
droplets. Moreover, colds can be transmitted when a sick person contact you or an object that you then
touch, such as a doorknob. A person should wear gloves to prevent viruses from coming into contact
with their skin in order to avoid contracting the illness by touching contaminated surfaces. We use our
hands frequently throughout the day for a variety of jobs, making it quite simple for someone to catch
diseases like the cold in this method. If the infected virus is on a person's hands, it can enter the body
through several openings, including the mouth during eating. It's simple to forget to wash your hands
before dining in a public place. Some ways for someone to contract an infection include touching their
eyes or nose. The sick person should wear a mask to avoid spreading the sickness. Using a mask ensures
that any droplets discharged (when a person coughs or sneezes) do not come into touch with any
surfaces, so preventing contamination.

One benefit of using ppe to stop the spread of infectious diseases is that it serves as a barrier between
a person and objects that could spread the disease, including polluted surfaces. this aids in limiting the
disease's ability to spread through contact with certain surfaces. Moreover, ppe lessens the likelihood
that someone may touch their face or other areas with contaminated hands. In particular, masks, which
filter out infectious airborne particles, aid in preventing the spread of disease by airborne transmission.
Furthermore, protective equipment such as gloves and masks are easily affordable. PPE may have the
drawback of being uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time, particularly in hot areas. Wearing
ppe could give a person a false sense of security. When they are not protected from harm, a person
could believe they are because they are wearing protective equipment. Using ppe can cause someone to
overlook other crucial factors like social distance and hand cleanliness. PPE must be disposed of properly
because it may contain virus remnants. The risk of infection spreading increases when ppe is improperly
disposed of.

Behavioural
Another efficient strategy to stop the spread of infectious disease is to alter your behaviour. Coughing
into one's arm helps lessen the danger of the disease spreading for conditions like the flu and viral
infections where coughing is the primary symptom. Moreover, a person should have disinfectant wipes
or hand sanitizer to clean surfaces where droplets may have landed. Sanitizer and wipes are reasonably
priced and accessible at any nearby retailer. Using proper food preparation practises is another
behavioural strategy to stop the spread of disease. Not coming into contact with another person causes
food poisoning; it occurs from consuming tainted food. The viruses and bacteria that cause food
poisoning can still be contagious. So, someone who gets sick from food can potentially spread it to
others. One should wash their hands before, during, and after making the food to avoid this from
happening. To avoid cross-contamination, poultry should always be handled separately from other
foods. Practising safe sex is another behavioural method to stop transmission of diseases such as HIV,
chlamydia, and herpes. Using condoms creates a barrier that prevents bodily fluids from coming into
contact with another person’s skin. An advantage is that condoms are easily found across many sores
and are inexpensive. As well as this, they are easy to use. A major disadvantage is that condoms are not
always 100% effective. They may break or slip off during use which results in infecting the other person.

The fundamental benefit of behavioural approaches is that they are inexpensive and simple to use. Basic
actions like hand washing and social seclusion can significantly slow the spread of contagious diseases.
Behaviour modification techniques can have long-lasting effects because they help create healthy
behaviours that people can keep up even after the threat of an illness has passed. The fact that
behavioural approaches depend on people changing their behaviour, which can be challenging to
accomplish, is one of their key drawbacks. For instance, some people can be reluctant to practise social
distance, which reduces the efficacy of that technique. When it comes to sex, some people may refuse
to use condoms. Furthermore, it may be challenging to enforce behavioural techniques in environments
with high levels of noncompliance or in big groups.
