In addition, by developing his or her own APN professional development plan, it will help acquire enough understanding of the different roles that the advance practice nurses have including the impact of APRN’s to our healthcare system as well as the delivery of effective patient care. Furthermore, the development of personal professional development plan includes addressing and understanding the APN practice act, following licensure regulations, scope of practice within the respected state’s geographical area of practice or plan to practice. It also includes personal skills assessment such strength and weaknesses, personal and professional goals and objectives (Brassard, 2014). The author of this paper will present the Ohio’s APN scope of practice, author’s self- assessment using the assessment tool created by Benner (nursing theorist), methods or approach for APN networking and job marketing, a resume or curriculum vitae (CV), as well as conclusion of the APN professional development plan. Ohio’s APN Scope of Practice According to Ellenbecker & Edward (2016), Every state has their own guideline and requirements for APN education, accreditation, licensure and certification (LACE); therefore, every practicing APN must follow the respective state’s scope of practice. However, scope of practice and level of autonomy differs by state that is why it is important for future APN or current practicing APN to understand and abide by their scope of practice. Certified Nurse Practitioner’s (CNP’s) in Ohio are licensed as APRN’s by Ohio board of nursing. CNP’s scope of practice includes collaboration (using standard care arrangement) with a podiatrist or physician when providing patient care. In addition, CNP’s scope of practice includes providing primary care and preventative care services, manages chronic or acute disease in different settings,APN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 3 promotes wellness and evaluates patient health, orders diagnostics test and laboratory test and interprets them, prescribes medication and other therapeutic devices, and CNP’s performs procedures. The CNP’s responsibility is to provide health promotion and disease prevention, health education, diagnosis and treatment of chronic or acute illnesses. CNP is also accountable in providing the highest level of patient care and promote safety to the public. In addition, CNP is responsible to follow the Ohio’s APRN Standard of practice law, failure to follow can compromise the holders license to practice (NCSBN, 2019).
