Forms of Reconnaissance - ANSWER-ZARR
Z - ANSWER-Zone: Assigned when enemy situation is vague or when info concerning x-country
trafficability is desired. Deliberate, time-consuming process.
, A - ANSWER-Area: Defined by a single continuous line enclosing the area to be reconnoitered, such as an
objective. May be defined by an NAI, enables multiple areas for recon simultaneously.
R - ANSWER-Route: Route is defined by SP to a specific destination. Could be an axis of advance. Often
performed during zone or area recon.
R - ANSWER-Recon in Force: Conducted when enemy is known to be operating within an area and
adequate intel cannon be obtained by other means. Aggressive recon, conducted as part of an offensive
operation to answer clearly stated CCIR. Usually assigned to BN+ size elements.
Recon Techniques: - ANSWER-RPRP
RP - ANSWER-Recon Push: Relative degree of certainty about the enemy situation. Emphasizes
development of a detailed ISR plan prior to deployment of recon assets to focus the recon effort on an
evolving maneuver COA—or on several COAs.
RP - ANSWER-Recon Pull: Great degree of uncertainty about the enemy situation; Commander refrains
from committing to a specific plan or COA prior to deployment of reconnaissance elements.
