CVAs (strokes) can occur in 2 different ways: - Answer 1. Ischemic stroke 2. Hemorrhagic Ischemic Stroke - Answer -Arteries to the brain are blocked and blood flow is cut off -85% of strokes are ischemic -Thrombotic vs. Embolic Hemorrhagic Stroke - Answer -A blood vessel breaks and bleeds into the brain or compresses brain tissues -Less common, but more fatal -Intracerebral vs. Subarachnoid Course - Answer -When brain cells are deprived of oxygen for more than four minutes they can begin to die -When brain cells begin to die the functions or body parts associated with that cell or group of cells are hindered -If the oxygen flow is not restored to the brain cells within the next 4 to 6 hours the cells will permanently die -Following a stroke, a cavity is left in the brain where brain tissue had liquefied -Clinical features will vary depending on the section/lobe and hemisphere of the brain affected 3 Main Causes - Answer 1.
