There are two main types of lymphedemas, and these consist of primary lymphedema and secondary
lymphedema. Primary lymphedema is known as being caused by faulty genes that affect the
development of the lymphatic system. This can take place in the body at any age, but it commonly
happens in young ages such as early adulthood, adolescence, or infancy. Secondary lymphedema is
caused by cancer treatments, injuries, inflammation of the limb, infection, or lack of limb movement,
which would lead to the damage to the lymphatic system such as problems with the drainage of the
fluid and problems with movement.
Lymphedema is a long-term condition that leads to swelling of the body due to the
build-up of the lymph fluid in the tissues of the body. It is a condition that can take place
in any part of the body, but it commonly takes place in the arms and legs. It is caused
when there is a blockage in the lymph nodes or vessels of the lymphatic system.
