Unit 7.2 P5- Protection techniques
P5- Protection techniques Policies and procedures Companies must develop their own policies and ensure that their workers follow them. These policies should cover internet and email usage to ensure that workers do not visit untrustworthy websites or open unsafe email attachments; security and password protocols to ensure that data is protected; staff duties to clearly state who has authority to do what; and IT security training for employees. Employees should be aware of security problems so that they can stop malware and hackers, as well as disciplinary processes so that they are aware of the repercussions of unauthorised behaviour. These policies are only successful if the organisation enforces them, which can be accomplished by holding meetings to inform employees, posting signs in the workplace, or emailing employees. Finding and eliminating any backdoors, which is an important security tactic since it ensures unauthorised individuals cannot access the systems as they please, is a process that organisations can go through to improve transparency. Setting up different group access levels also allows you to monitor who has access to which services, making it more efficient so less people have control over the data. Companies must erase any “reset to factory settings” options from hardware and software configurations to avoid changes to access settings and other security settings. This is a vital protocol to follow to protect systems because it prevents people from making settings changes that make the system less safe, both deliberately and unintentionally. Physical security Physical security is just as critical as using software to apply security measures directly on the systems. The rooms where the hardware is kept must be protected by locking the doors to keep those who aren't supposed to have access to the systems out. They can't use, cheat, or damage the systems because of this. There are several techniques that can be used to secure computer or network rooms. The easiest method is to lock the doors of not only the room, but the whole house, but this is not very safe because people can force their way in. It's also difficult to keep track of who has the actual key to the room because people will need to go in and out often. It'll have to be determined if specific people will open and lock doors for them or whether the doors will be left unlocked during the working day, causing the issue of not being able to tell who has entered. This means that doors are only useful in securing physical
