1908 Federal Employees Worker's Comp Act Provided an alternative to suing companies for work related injuries. 1914 War-Risk Act Gave the US government the ability to provide insurance to private company ships who were supplying the allies. 1917 Smith-Hughes Act Made federal money available to states on a matching basis for the purpose of promoting precollegiate vocational education in agricultural & industrial trades and home economics. 1918 Soldier's Rehabilitation Act Created rehab programs for disabled veterans 1920 Smith-Fess Act Made services available for more than just veterans on a federally funded 50/50 matching basis with the states. 1935 Social Security Act Social security became part of a federal program and a solution to old-age pensions. Funds ($2,000,000) were for children, the blind, & unemployed for vocational training and family health programs. 1936 Randolph-Sheppard Act Authorized blind vendors to operate vending machines on government property. 1938 Wagner-O'Day Act Required the government to purchase from workshops for the blind. 1943 Barden-Lafollette Act Expanded funding & eligibility for vocational rehab services to those with MR & mental illness. Increased need for occupational therapists. Vocational Act Amendment 1954 Public law 565 represented a major expansion of government in voc. rehab. Funding went from 50/50 to $3 for every $2 state dollars. Expanded funding to 65 million. Vocational Act Amendment 1965 Expanded funding ratio to 75/25 and extended evaluation process to 6 & 18 months. Made it possible to serve those with a "behavior disorder".
