This allows your blood vessels to relax and widen, making it easier for blood to flow through. It also reduces the amount of water your body retains, which lowers your blood pressure. THIAZIDE DIURETIC Nonblack thiazide-type diuretic Age over 60 blood pressure goal SBP 150 DBP 90 age 60 SBP goal 140 and DBP all ages with diabetes present no CKD blood pressure goal SBP 140 and DBP 90 initiate thiazide-type diuretic or ACE or ARB or CCB, alone or in combination. Maximize first medication before adding a second or add a second medication before getting to the max does of first. If not at goal BP continue to titrate the thiazide diuretic. Stage I
