Questionnaires
Questionnaires allow for a high volume of information to be collected in a short amount of
time. The use of questionnaires can help the recipient be more honest than if they were
talking face to face with the healthcare professional. The results of the questionnaires can
allow the professional to change their methods accordingly in order to give every patient
the best possible care. Tremayne could benefit from using a questionnaire, as the questions
are clear and simple and don’t require long answers. This makes it easier for him, as due to
his autism he may have struggled to get his words out.

Observation
Observation allows for issues to be picked up quickly, so they can be addressed quickly
before they progress any further. This can be identifying any patterns in behaviour and
changes of behaviour, as this can often indicate a larger issue. Observation skills can also
help uncover issues such as negligence or abuse. Aisha could benefit from this, as she has to
be observed as she is suffering from pneumonia and this could worsen if she doesn’t
respond well to her treatment. This would allow her healthcare provider to change her
medication accordingly.

Talking too individuals formally
This is casually talking to people without using medical jargon that they may not be able to
understand. By doing this, challenges can be identified without the patient feeling as though
they’re being watched. This can also be used to gather honest opinions on subjects such as a
new ward or new procedure. Aisha could benefit from talking informally, as it may allow for
her to understand her condition better and give the healthcare provider feedback about her
care and what they can do to further improve.

Focus Groups
A focus group is a group of people that are invited to discuss a specific topics or issues. The
group will share ideas with each other and share information, which can be used to then
identify challenges. This can allow for the health and social care professionals to take this
information on board and meet those challenges accordingly. A focus group could benefit
Tremayne, as it allows the doctors and nurses to find out what they can do further to
accommodate those with autism better. This could include meeting their sensory needs by
dimming lights or having quiet time on wards.

Practical Challenges
Practical challenges are challenges that someone may face because they are less mobile,
such as cooking meals and maintaining personal hygiene. The healthcare provider can then
offer resources and care to support the healthcare user and make their lives as easy as
possible. Practical challenges can be overcome with Aisha by setting up meals on wheels for
her, as this will remove the stress of cooking and ensuring that there is food in the house.
This can benefit Aisha as she won’t forget to eat if her food is readily delivered to her at the
same time each day. Tremayne also suffers from practical challenges as he may find it hard
to wash himself now that he has a broken leg. The healthcare providers can speak with his

carers and put a plan into place, so that he has support when showering and maintaining
person hygiene.

Skills Challenges
Skills challenges are challenges that somebody may face because they don’t have the
relevant skills to carry out tasks, such as carrying out an online shop. Service providers can
help overcome these issues by getting into contact with local charities that help people
learn new skills, such as technological skills.

Acceptance and Belief Challenges
Acceptance challenges are when a change happens in a healthcare users' life that they are
struggling to accept and come to terms with. The healthcare provider will offer guidance on
how to accept the changes and adapt to them. Tremayne may face an acceptance challenge,
as he recently broke his leg, resulting in a loss of mobility. This will result in a change of
routine for Tremayne, which could negatively impact him further, as he suffers with autism.
Another challenge is belief challenges. This is when comfort is found in religion, making the
approach of death easier to deal with. Aisha may benefit from her religion as she reaches
the end of her life, as due to her being Buddhist, she may believe that she will be
reincarnated and go on to live a new and different life. Beliefs such as this can make it easier
for patients to become comfortable and at peace during their end-of-life care.

Motivational Challenges
Motivational challenges are when the patient struggles to find the motivation to carry out
tasks. The service provider can also suffer from motivational issues as they may lack the
drive needed to learn new and better techniques to care for patients. Aisha could struggle
with motivational challenges as she’s becoming older and having more complex health
issues which get in the way of her carrying out simple tasks. Meaning that a carer may have
to come in and support her with tasks she feels that she can't do herself. Tremayne may also
suffer with motivational challenges as he now has some mobility issues. This could make
household tasks a lot harder for him, resulting in a loss of motivation. He should discuss
these issues with his healthcare provider and carers to ensure that they offer him the extra
support that he requires.

Awareness and Knowledge Challenges
Awareness challenges are challenges that occur when the service user is unaware of
situations such as funding for their care. This could apply to Aisha as she isn't fit to continue
living independently so would need to be moved to a care home where she can be under
observation, but she may be unaware of any funding she may get to support this move.
Similarly, healthcare providers can also be unaware of the latest legislation and guidance,
resulting in some healthcare users not benefitting from the new guidance.

Communication Challenges
Communication challenges are when a service user struggles to find a clear path of
communication with their healthcare provider. This can be because the users have a hearing
or sight impairment, or due to language barriers or disabilities. Tremayne may suffer from
communication challenges due to his autism, as he may not understand the healthcare
providers tone of voice very well. This can cause a loss of empowerment in patients such as
