Two Businesses on our doorstep - AS1
In this task you are going to explore the two business that are private and public, in this task
has been provided two organisations that are NHS and H&M, one is private and one public
and this task is going to walk through the differences and the similarities that the two
organisation have and why the two-sector are important in the society, and what are the
disadvantages and the advantages of this type of sector.
NHS
Overview
The NHS is an organisation that includes primary care, in-patient care, dentist, local dentist,
hospitals and many more that are under NHS and they are only there to help the people and
provide a quality of care. On the 5th July 1948 and it was set by Aneurin Bevan when the
main organisation started from the idea of giving the best care without getting any money
from the patients. The NHS set some of the objectives that were to meet the needs of
different populations and make sure that everyone’s treatment would be done equally and
fairly. The NHS tries to minimise the errors and give a perfect service to be used. The NHS is
an organisation that tries to give the best possible to their patients without having any profit
from them. The aim of the NHS is to give the best and the satisfied service and opportunities
to the patients, so they can use the services and be contented from it and the tremendous
aim of the NHS is to help improve the care of the patients. They have some other aims and
that are ‘’The NHS will help to keep people healthy and reduce health inequalities’’, the NHS
tries to have their patients with the best wellbeing, and they try to make sure that there will
be less patience coming to the doctors. ‘’The NHS will provide a comprehensive range of
services’’ they provide a wide variety of different treatments (blog.gooroo.co.uk, 2008-
2019).
Type of Organisation
The NHS is the biggest organisation in the UK that
helps people to get the best opportunities and services
so that they can secure that the patients are healthy in
the UK and that they will live longer. This organisation
is in England, this is a national organisation that is
based in the UK, but it is comfortably found in every
local place. The NHS is an organisation that is based in
the UK and it is a service that is national it makes to
the patients easier to approach to NHS and they can
find their solution to their problems in the NHS. The
NHS is wide public sector in UK that has about
1,400,000 employees.

This organisation operates in the public sector, this is because it is owned by the
government and it is controlled by the state, the organisation that is in the public sector
they don’t look to make any profit from the public. But they give the best to the public of
the country so that they will be provided the best health care. The NHS is a publicly funded
health service that provides the best health care to the patients that are in UK. It uses the
public funding to provide to the NHS patients. The public sector provides the services to the
customers, tourist and patients. The public sector is where an organisation is provided to
give the services to people.
Type of Business Activity
The NHS is an organisation that is in the tertiary sector, this sector is where the distribution
process comes or a service and this is the sector where health care and education would be
the more important ones. In the tertiary sector, they provide a wide range of services such
as the GP, dentist and all other departments that are related to the medical sector. The NHS
is in tertiary sector and this is recognisable from that they provide a service or product to
the patients.

The Purpose

The purpose of NHS is to give the best possible service to the patients and to give a quality
of care, improving the lives and to work together with patients. The NHS ‘’ Work
continuously to improve the quality of services and to minimise errors’’, their purpose is to
provide the best service to the patients and to minimise the errors, this means that the
patients will be provided with a best service and healthcare. The other main objective is to
‘’Help to keep people healthy and work to reduce health inequalities’’ this means that the
NHS is trying to reduce the people that are unhealthy and make sure that the people with
long term disease can live longer. (Gooroo, n.d.)
Type of Ownership and type of liability

The NHS is in the public sector, this organisation is owned and controlled by the government
that means that the state has the responsibility of it and the control. It is under the local
government. The NHS is governmentally paid so that the patients can freely use the service
because it is a public sector organisation. They have no liability because they are owned by
the government and paid through tax income.

H&M
Overview
In 1946 a person called Erling Persson he
opened a shop called Hennes and he sold only
women’s clothing, however after two years he
opened a shop called Mauritz Widforss and it
was a fishing store, when he combined the

, both shops he came out with a shop called Hennes and Mauritz and today is known as H&M
and this happened in 1948 in Switzerland. The fundamental aim of H&M is to focus on being
sustainable, and H&M tries to aim the perfect guide and inspiration for the customers so
that they know what the right fashion for them.
Type of Organisation
This is an international company that is in Europe and Asia, and internationally H&M has
4,958 stores around the world, this tells us about how large the organisation is, it was
opened before in Europe however, it expanded afterward in Asia and other countries. H&M
is a worldwide organisation, the large H&M market is present in Germany, but there are
shops all over the world. H&M is becoming a large brand by itself as other huge brand H&M
is known as another one for fashion.
Type of Sector
H&M is an organisation that operates in the private sector because it looks to make a profit.
The organisation that operates in the private section they aim to make a profit even if the
owners of H&M know that they could face loss. So, it is important that the customers
approach to H&M the most. This is an organisation that is LTD, this means that the
organisation is a private limited company.
Type of Business Activity
This organisation is in the tertiary business activity because this organisation does make sure
to give the product to the customers, it aims to sell products that gets from the process of
primary and the secondary sector. The tertiary activity has a purpose that the organisation
must complete, and that is to make sure that the customer gets the service or the products
that are at its final stage and is ready to use it, because H&M gives to their customers the
best products that get processed for them.
The Purpose
The purpose of H&M is to give the best clothing that suits the customer and makes them
look as they want. H&M does also try to approach to the most people that they can and to
become the world’s best clothing company that people would love to use it. H&M is trying
to be as sustainable as they can be, because they are producing as many clothes that they
can produce however they are trying to make less waste, to be environmentally friendly.
‘’Big change requires bold actions and the courage to aim high. At the same time, we must
be humble to the challenges our planet is facing. So, if we want to make real change, we
have to be brave, push the boundaries and not be afraid to fail” the purpose of H&M is to
make the fashion look more sustainable and this means that they will be producing less
waste that would be eco-friendly with the environment. The H&M is aiming to make long
term investments that will make the organisation to make long term opportunities and this
will mean also that there will be quicker changes in the world. (hmgroup.com, 2019)
