Introduction
1.1 What is Information Governance and Optimization of Information
Governance
Information gov, France is a kind of "super discipline" that has emerged as a result of new and
stricter legislation governing businesses, privacy concerns, legal demands, outside pressures like
hacking and data breaches, and the recognition that multiple overlapping disciplines were needed
to address today's information management challenges in an environment where businesses are
becoming more regulated and litigated (Smallwood, 2020).
The term "information governance”, refers to a subset of corporate governance that encompasses
important ideas from information security, data privacy and protection, records and information
management, content management, IT and data governance, risk management, litigation
readiness, regulatory compliance, long-term digital preservation, even analytics and information
economics. Hence, it also encompasses subcategories of related technologies and academic
disciplines including document management, enterprise search, knowledge management, and
business continuity or disaster recovery, (Smallwood, 2020).
Information governance is a cross-departmental framework consisting of Policies, Procedures,
and Technologies. The goal of information governance is to manage risks, control costs, and
maximize the value of information. To achieve this, disciplines in records administration,
privacy, and security must work together.
