Compare screening as part of the environmental impact assessment process in South Africa, Mauritius and Zimbabwe by considering any two of the following aspects: (15) • What do you think the implications are of combining the screening and scoping stages? • Discuss the effectiveness of the types of lists/criteria used in each of the countries. • Consider aspects such as strengths and weaknesses of the approaches. • Consider the implications of who draws up the lists of reference. • Consider the implications of having lists that are not very comprehensive. You can take the discussion one step further by accessing the lists for Mauritius and Zimbabwe and evaluating their comprehensiveness in comparison with those used in South Africa. 7.2. How do the screening processes in these Southern African countries compare with those in developed countries?
