Connective Tissues coverings of a
Muscle
• Three layers of connective tissue extend from the fascia to protect and
strengthen skeletal muscle
• Epimysium surrounds the whole muscle
• Perimysium surrounds a muscle fascicle which is a group of 10 to100 or
more muscle fibers
• Endomysium surrounds each muscle cell/fibre
At the junction of a muscle belly with a tendon, the fibers of epimysium,
perimysium and endomysium become continuous with the fibers of the
tendon that attaches the skeletal muscle to bone
