Mr. R age 52 years, is undergoing a routine physical examination for his employer. During palpation of the prostate, the physician noted a hard nodule on the gland’s periphery. Lab tests revealed an elevated PSA level. The remainder of the examination did not reveal any other abnormalities. Discussion questions 1. Using the information given, discuss the presentation of cancer of the prostate. (See Cancer of the Prostate—Signs and Symptoms, Diagnostic Tests.) 2. Discuss the predisposing factors for prostate cancer and identify the highrisk groups. 3. Discuss the variation in the growth and course of this type of cancer. 4. Discuss how the decision to treat or not to treat is made early in the course of prostate cancer. 5. If metastasis occurs, what additional manifestations will occur, and how will they be treated? 1. Signs and Symptoms include painful urination, blood in urination, bone pain, fecal incontinence and diagnosis tests include physical examination, family history, digital rectal exam to know the prostate cancer. A hard nodule on the glands periphery and using digital rectal exam is most common presentation of prostate cancer. 2. Predisposing factors include age who are more than 50 users. GeneticsHPC1 Gene inherited mutation., increased insulin growth factor. High risk groups are seen in African American population.
