Three follow-up activities for exploiting the authentic text with advanced students

First Activity
a) A dictionary activity, for vocabulary and dictionary skills development AFTER the class have
read or listened to your selected text.
This could be used later in the same lesson or in another lesson. You can use the vocabulary items
you have selected for pre-teaching or make a different selection. The vocabulary must be from the
text or clearly relevant to the text.

To be able to identify word types and understand the difference
between Nouns, Verbs, and Adverbs
Aims
To demonstrate learners’ understanding of C-level words
To expand their vocabulary
To make them aware of what type of information they can find in a
dictionary
I will make the class aware of how much time they have to complete the
activity, I will then make sure each student has an English dictionary
(some might have their own, if not I will have extra ones), and hand out
Teacher’s Instructions
a worksheet for each student. I will then give them clear instructions on
how to go forth and what is expected of them. I will let them know that
they can put up their hand if they need help.
Worksheet for each student, including 2 extra ones just for in case.
Materials Dictionaries
Pens (enough for each student, if they don’t have their own.)

, Worksheet for Dictionary Activity:
Students need to look up each word following with a check in the correct box, depending on what
type of word it is. I am aware that there are some with multiple functions, but they will go
according to how the word is used in the reading text. I have completed the first one as an
example.
