• Population distribution
– This refers to how people are spread out over an area
– Population distribution patterns
Dispersed pattern is when people are spread out in a region
Clustered pattern is when people are grouped together in one part of
a region
Linear pattern is when people are arranged on along a line
• Population density
– This refers to the measurement of people in a square kilometre
If there are many people in an area we call it a dense population
If there are few people in an area we refer to it as a sparse
population
– When calculating population density we take the population and
divide it by the area
– We give the answer as a number of people per square kilometre
