Unit 1 - Assignment 1

Features contributing to the success
of contrasting businesses

In this assignment I have been asked to contrast 2 types of businesses and what
contributes to their success. I have chosen a public limited company which is the
Volkswagen Group and one private limited company which is Dyson.

Volkswagen Group being one of the world leading manufacturers and owning some of
the best car car manufacturers out there such as Audi and Porsche. The company
has over 5,400 showrooms in Europe with its own company along with the other
companies and they would have their own showrooms everywhere too.
Dyson is probably the best company or one of the best companies out there for its
technology advancements as people tend to prefer Dyson over other brands for their
business purposes and home including that Dyson always copyright their product ,
no other company can come near their latest product. Also stores such as Currys PC
World and Argos would be recommending the best product under that certain
department and I believe the first one to come up would be a Dyson product as they
are always updating themselves with technology.

The Volkswagen Group falls under the private sector
organisation but a public limited company which means that
the business is owned by shareholders including people
from the bank and insurance companies. This also includes
that the business has limited liability which could be a
negative point for them because if the business was to go
into liquidation , the shareholders would have lost their
shares into the business including that they wouldn't be able
to run anymore along with their bills. Also Volkswagen being a public limited
company , the shareholders rely on the company as they would believe the company
is to achieve big with their standards as Volkswagen is a reliable and trustworthy
company.

The group's purpose is to achieve big for the company and for its customers as their
mission statement is to ‘ Move people forward ’ which shows that the company is
always going to try improving its cars and service for their customers. This also
shows that as the years go by , technology is only going to be advancing so the
company is always going to try improving along with technology and along with that
the economy is trying to save the planet so manufacturers are looking into getting rid
of fuel cars and start going all electric. So for Volkswagen when they try to add the
new technology to their cars and try to keep up with its competitors , the group is
always going to be adding twists to the cars as it will make the car more fun for its
customers and make their loyalty stay the same.

I believe that Volkswagen is part of the secondary and tertiary sector as they will
make the cars and sell them after to its customers. Volkswagen can do both because
they are a manufacturing company that makes cars for its customers to drive
including that they got their own engineers behind the door coming up with new ideas
to make the newest car and after producing the car with all the tests completed , it will
finally be ready to sell. Every car manufacturer will be part of both as its part of their
business because they will need to innovate new ideas for its customers as it will
allow them to stay loyal to the company and allow the company to generate profit as
the years go by.

Volkswagen group will meet the three scopes as
they are a big manufacturer and trusted for its
service / product. I believe that the group will be in
every local for its showrooms as it allows them to
contact their customers depending on their local
and this also includes the partnered manufactures
like Audi would be in every local. However , other
showrooms like Porsche wouldn't be in every local
as they are in the luxury department and have high
standards so their showrooms would be in places
where areas are thought to be posh such as
Leeds , Manchester and London. Furthermore , them being locally they would be
internationally as the company was founded in Germany , they are determined to be
everywhere. On their website its proven they are to be selling in 153 countries with
123 factories including 20 of them in European countries and 11 of them are across
America , Asia and Africa. This proves that Volkwagen with their other companies
they are everywhere as they are demanded by customers because they make very
good cars that provides a lot of satisfaction for a reasonable price that a customer
would pay for a brand new or used car.

The groups scopes link to the size of the business because if the business is
international and local it would be large. Volkswagen with their partners are very large
as they have over 600,000 plus employees and making over 3.2Billion Euros in
revenue. This proves that they are a large company as they are partnered up with
common car manufacturers and selling cars worldwide.
