NR701 Reflections
Week 1
Week 1 learnings provided a few enriching concepts and I achieved the weekly objectives
by participating in discussions and examining the role of stakeholders in the national
practice problem of diabetes.
Learnings started with exploring the eight national practice problems presented in Global
Burden of Research. I selected Diabetes as the practice problem for my discussion. I
explored diabetes impact on nurse, nursing care, healthcare organizations and the quality
of healthcare being provided. I had an opportunity to identify national level key
stakeholders who are impacted by diabetes as well as the key stakeholders that are
involved in resolution. During this discussion, I also learned about the utilization of
clinical practice guidelines to address the problem of diabetes.
Practice problem of diabetes has been an area that I have been fascinated for a long time
and I also hope to do my change project around this practice problem. As a practice
scholar learning about the various national key stakeholders in this class has helped me
identify how to improve my effectiveness by gathering information from the national
organizations which I will need to achieve the goal for my change project.
Week 2
Week 2 learnings provided a few enriching concepts and I achieved the weekly objectives
by participating in discussions and examining the role of stakeholders in the local
practice problem of diabetes.
Healthcare is local and as a practicing scholar it is important to understand the local key
stakeholders who can help advance the nursing science and practice. This information is
important to understand to make any impact on the practice problem of diabetes. Without
the support, buy in and engagement from the local key stakeholders any practice change
will be difficult to achieve and support from them can go a long way in the success of
practice change.
I will utilize this knowledge in my current change projects at work as well as incorporate
it in my change project for the DNP Program.
Week 3
Week 3 learnings included concepts on translation science and relevant ethical
considerations and theories. I achieved the weekly objectives by participating in
discussions and examining the effectiveness of Diabetes Prevention Program in a health
plan setting. I also completed the CITI training and posted the required certification.
Benefits of learning about translation science are critical for the success of program
implementation. DNP scholars are at the forefront and can work closely with the key
stakeholders to implement evidenced based programs. DNP scholars need to be aware of
the pitfalls and ethical considerations when translating research-based intervention in
practice.
