, Introduction
• Definition: Acute abdomen is abdominal pain less
than a week that needs admission to hospital,
which has not been previously investigated or
treated. Not by trauma.
• In surgery; acute pain with chief manifestations in
the abdominal area to which urgent exploration
may be necessary .
• Often requires surgical intervention immediately,
judgement or decision needs to be made.
