It transports food from leaves to other body parts. It is bidirectional i.e. It transports food in both the
directions with the gravity and against the gravity.
It has four cells
Phloem vessels or Sieve Tubes
They are thin walled, living cells , arranged end to end. Their end walls
are perforated. Such end walls are called sieve tubes. They transfer food from leaves to other parts of
plants.
Campanion cells
They help sieve tubes in loading and unloading of food.
Phloem fibres or sclerenchyma
They provide mechanical strength.
Phloem Parenchyma
It stores food.
