She pays with a £5 note.

2) A notebook costs £3.50 and a calculator costs £4.25.
Sam buys 3 notebooks and 1 calculator.
He pays with a £20 note.
How much change will he receive? (3 marks)


3) Linda bought 3 cakes for £1.32 each.
She also bought 2 bottles of water.
She paid a total amount of £5.16.
How much does 1 bottle of water cost? (3 marks)


4) A ticket for a child will cost £7.20.
A ticket for an adult will cost £10.
Ben wants to buy tickets for 3 children and 5 adults.
How much will Ben spend? (2 marks)


5) A video game costs £18.
Josh buys some video games; the total cost is £162.
How many video games did Josh buy? (1 mark)


6) Jenny wants to buy lots of books, but she only has £76.20
in her purse.
Each book costs £8.25.
How many books can Jenny afford to buy? (2 marks)


7) At her job, Joyce earns £9.68 per hour.
She works 9am - 4.30pm for 4 days a week.
How much money will she earn in 1 week? (3 marks)

10) An artist spends £462 on art supplies.
She will also have to pay VAT (value added tax) at 20% of
the whole price.

11) On a usual week, Sue works 24 hours and earns
£10.64 per hour.
The hourly rate for overtime is different.
This week, Sue worked 8 hours of overtime (as well as
her usual 24 hours), so her salary for this week was
£358.59.
What is the hourly rate for overtime? (4 marks)


12) Right now, the bike which Beth wants to buy is £430.
She can’t buy it right now, so has to wait until next week.
Next week, the bike’s price will have increased by 15%.

13) A car’s price will decrease by 7.5% within a year.

14) Paint is sold in 2 different amounts.
