Identify a political issue or agenda in health care. How would you formalize support to advance this agenda? The nurse should understand how the government work and how policies are created and changed in order to influence public officials to accept new agendas that will improve quality of care for all people (Mason, Gardner, Outlaw, & O’Grady, 2016). My agenda in health care is to create a health care policy that will improve the obesity rate of all Americans. Having a thorough knowledge of obesity and its impact on the cost of healthcare will be essential when the nurse creates a policy change because all heath care programs require funding (Mason et al., 2016). The development of health policy involves both the executive and legislative branches at state and federal levels. The legislative branch is a good access point for policy change through the committees or subcommittees. The standing committee of Health, Environment, Labor, & Pension would be a good start to propose a policy that will provide direct financial incentives to Medicare recipients who lose weight. The chances of finding a group of supporters that will champion for this change is greater in this committee because this committee has jurisdiction over public health concerns (Mason et al., 2016).
