INSTRUCTIONS
• Use black ink. You can use an HB pencil, but only for graphs and diagrams.
• Write your answer to each question in the space provided. If you need extra
space use the lined pages at the end of this booklet. The question numbers
must be clearly shown.
• Answer all the questions.
• Where appropriate, your answer should be supported with working. Marks
might be given for using a correct method, even if your answer is wrong.
INFORMATION
• The total mark for this paper is 100.
• The marks for each question are shown in brackets [ ].
• Quality of extended response will be assessed in questions marked with an
asterisk (*).
• This document has 24 pages.
ADVICE
• Read each question carefully before you start your answer.

(a) The diagram shows some folded sedimentary rocks in a cliff face.
South North
(i) Label the diagram to show:
• hinge line
• joints
• limb [3]
(ii) Name the type of force that formed this fold.

(iii) Draw arrows on the diagram of the cliff face to indicate the maximum
stress directions. [1]
(iv) Describe the distribution of the slaty cleavage shown in the diagram and
explain how this structure formed.

(a) Scientists have used microfossils to reconstruct the atmospheric
composition of the last
60 million years. Deep sea sediment cores were taken from different parts
of the ocean floor. The microfossils were extracted and chemically
analysed using several methods, including isotope analysis.
The results are shown in the graph.
