UNIDAD 11 – RELATIVE CLAUSES
WHO – WHICH – THAT – WHERE – WHOSE
Las Relative Clauses sirven para añadir información sobre una persona, cosa o lugar.
Nos permiten unir dos frases.
Ejemplo:
Peter is my friend.
Peter lives in London.
Podemos unirlas:
Peter is my friend who lives in London. Peter es mi amigo que vive en Londres.
1. WHO
WHO = QUE / QUIEN
Se utiliza para hablar de PERSONAS.
The woman who lives next door is a doctor. La mujer que vive al lado es médica.
I have a friend who speaks English very well. Tengo un amigo que habla inglés muy bien.
The man who works here is very friendly. El hombre que trabaja aquí es muy amable.

WHO → PERSONAS
2. WHICH
WHICH = QUE / EL CUAL / LA CUAL
Se utiliza para hablar de COSAS o ANIMALES.
This is the book which I bought yesterday. Este es el libro que compré ayer.
The car which is outside is mine. El coche que está fuera es mío.
I watched a film which was very interesting. Vi una película que era muy interesante.

WHICH → COSAS

THAT = QUE
THAT puede sustituir muchas veces a WHO o WHICH en este tipo de frases.
PERSONAS
The woman that works here is very friendly. La mujer que trabaja aquí es muy amable.
También:
The woman who works here...
COSAS
The book that I bought is very interesting. El libro que compré es muy interesante.
También:
The book which I bought...
PARA SIMPLIFICAR
WHO → personas
WHICH → cosas
THAT → puede utilizarse muchas veces con ambos
4. WHERE
WHERE = DONDE
Se utiliza para hablar de LUGARES.
This is the restaurant where we had dinner. Este es el restaurante donde cenamos.
London is the city where my sister lives. Londres es la ciudad donde vive mi hermana.
This is the school where I studied. Este es el colegio donde estudié.
