SOURCE-FIDELITY NOTE
Compiled from the uploaded lecture transcript only.
Repetition and filler are removed; exam-relevant teaching points, terminology, formulas and problem patterns are
retained.
Ambiguous/OCR-garbled portions are not silently reconstructed.

What the uploaded lecture covers
Electrostatics = charge at rest
Electro → charge; static → rest. The chapter studies the behaviour of charge while it is at rest.
When charge starts moving, the lecture connects the flow of charge to current electricity, followed later by
magnetic-field ideas.
Lecture sequence
• 1. Charge + properties + quantisation
• 2. Coulomb law + force questions
• 3. Electric field
• 4. Electric flux
• 5. Gauss law + applications
• 6. Electric potential + potential energy
• 7. Relation between electric field and potential + graphs
• 8. Conductors, including spherical-conductor problems
• 9. JEE Main / JEE Advanced PYQs and mixed revision
EXAM PRIORITY
The lecture repeatedly emphasises field, flux, Gauss law, potential, conductors and PYQs as major exam-working
areas.
Capacitance/capacitors are explicitly kept for the next chapter.

Definition
KEY DEFINITION
Charge is a property because of which one body can exert electric force on another body or experience electric
force.
Properties
• Scalar quantity: charge can be algebraically added/subtracted.
• Conservation: for an isolated system, charge is not created or destroyed; it is transferred.
• Position does not change charge: the lecture contrasts charge with quantities whose values depend on
location/frame.
Origin of charging
• Negative body → excess of electrons.
• Positive body → deficiency of electrons.
• If a neutral body loses 5 electrons, the lecture obtains +5e charge.
REMEMBER
Charging is explained through electrons arriving or leaving.
