The present state of healthcare in America is one of constant fluctuation that has direct importance on costs, availability, and quality of care. Due to the rise in costs and the decrease of reimbursement rates by insurance companies, hospitals have become much more competitive than they were in the past. This has caused hospitals a much harder time in giving the highest quality of care possible to patients. The quality of care that a hospital gives a patient is measure by the Hospital Consumer Assessment and Healthcare Providers (HCAPHS) patient surveys. The scores that are received from these patient surveys are used by the Affordable Care Act’s value-based purchasing.
